Purple
Loosestrife Biocontrol Project Volunteer Expression
of Interest Form
Volunteering is part of the
State project.
Volunteers
are not required to participate in all three facets
of the Biocontrol Project, however in order for AMWS
to ensure that all stages are completely staffed,
please indicate your level of interest.
Please
indicate interest in blanks.
(1: no interest; 2: some interest;
3: definitely interested)
I.

- Must
attend complete training course on how to rear Galerucella
beetles and obtain loosestrife plants only from
approved sites.
- Notify
AMWS of the site to be used for beetle rearing and
the name(s) of those involved. If you do not have
your own wetland for nomination, or if your wetland

as convenient as possible.

beetles and their offspring.

beetles is authorized or allowed.
- Ability
to devote an hour daily to plant watering and rearing
during the approximately 6-week rearing cycle in
June-July.

will only be done with the expressed authorization
of AMWS/MWRP into previously approved wetland sites
on the designated date(s).
- Release
data forms must be completed in full and returned
to AMWS immediately following the release.
- If
you cannot or do not wish to continue in the program,
AMWS must be notified immediately and all equipment
must be returned to AMWS. You will be charged for
any equipment not returned to AMWS.
III. Monitoring:
_____
- Must
attend the field training session on Monitoring
Protocol.
- Commitment
to evaluate the establishment and impact of the
Galerucella beetles over a three-year period, twice
a year. Spring and Fall evaluations require about

substitute volunteer can be found for the release
site to ensure the continuity of the program.
